Capturing Incarceration: A phenomenological study of Recidivism in Convicted Women

The present study aimed to find out psychosocial determinants of recidivism in female convicts. Previous literature on suggested several factors behind e.g. poverty, low self-esteem, personality, and familial (Bird, Hussain, & Joyce, 2004). However, the used a qualitative approach recidivism, specifically guided by phenomenological approach. data was collected from two women's prisons. Six (N=06) semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted. findings revealed major themes; psychological (personality social exclusion) (social demographic factors, societal constituents, judicial system) recidivism. This is helpful for determining underlying criminal acts it will help prison department consider these reentry prisons also assessment prisoners at their first entry prison.
